MG MGA - Strange Winter, But Good For MG Driving

Once again, mother nature gave us spring-like weather in southeast Pennsylvania. So I spent several hours Saturday cruising the backroads of Montgomery and Berks counties, enjoying the weather and my A. I don't mind the occasional midwinter drive bit I'm usually put off by the mud, slush and salt that we find on our roads this time of year. But this year has been different. We've only had one snowfall with any accumulation this winter and even that melted away in a day or two. While the thought of global warming is a bit disconcerting it certainly would make for some good driving.

Drove the mgb top down to work all weekend. Near 65 here today. Great day for restoration work on the Twin Cam. Garage doors open, heat off. Getting all the bits and pieces of the engine painted outside! MGA needed new waterpump and you darn near have to dissasemble the car to get to it...lovin it!

I have to admit that it was a bit parky in the garage yesterday fitting my new nose shroud in -2.5c. But a most exhilerating drive to work this morning in -5c.

I love driving the car in all temperatures, the more you drive these winter days the more you become immune to the cold. Also the exhaust just seems to have that extra sharp crackle, music to the ear-muffed ear! Just have to tread a bit carefully round one or two of the icy lanes, but what a way to start the working week.

I'm so envious!! I was stuck inside all day Saturday working on a construction project. I didn't even run out of nails (usually a good excuse to take the car down to Lowes).

And of course it rained Sunday (but I was still stuck on the same project!).

As you say Steve - a bit "parky" in Lancashire at the moment- had a lovely Sunday drive yesterday - 40 km in the sunshine and just above freezing . Just long enough to have fun but not long enough to freeze my ears off - still like the wind in what's left of my hair - Cheers Cam

Some days I much prefer to drive my 1600 in winter much easier to put on coats and gloves. Driving around in Summer time with no hood can lead to some exteme cases of sun burn. Did a trip between Adelaide, South Australia and Sydney, NSW and I was buying more water to drink than fuel for the old girl. But then I dont have to worry about snow, ice amd salt on the roads.

I live near Steve & Cam in lancashire & had the top
down weekend before last. Been a mild winter.....
I am all for this Global Warming!

I try to drive my cars all year but I won't take the A out in the snow or ice for two reasons: other drivers and salt. Also the A is a coupe so the cold is not an issue. On the other hand, my B is mostly rust so a little salt won't make it any worse. I enjoy wrapping up in scarf and gloves and taking the B, top down, on a cold weather drive.

Even north of the border here in southern Ontario the weather has been good for driving the A. Had it out last weekend. No snow, no salt, no mud, no problem.
