MG MGA - Stub stacks - the two Steves

Hi Steves Ash and Gyles,

Are there any of your stub stucks still available? - a good friend of mine would like a pair after my recommendation.

Has it been found necessary to change carb needles when using this type of stub stack.

Alan, Not in my experience. I did have the carbs re-tuned after fitting but that was to improve the economy.
Well worth fitting! Barry

Hi Phil

I just wondered if you were still in contact with the old owner of my old red MGA

I don't know how often Steve Ash reads these threads. I will email him and see what stocks he has.

Hi Steve,
I have been contacted by Steve Ash and my friend has put his order in for the last pair left!

Hi Gordon,
Yes will be seeing Steve Mitchell next week at the Jersey MG rally. How are you? Any MGs in your life at the moment?

All the best,
Phil

Hi Steve Ash and Steve Gyles
I am in the process of my mga rebuild and saw the articles on the web about your stub stacks. I am interested in fitting these to my car. Can you tell me if there are any available and how to get them.

Hi Brian

I have emailed the other Steve. He took up the production with a local engineering firm down in Devon.

I contacted Steve. The engineering firm may have some extras from the last order. Steve will check with them. May be best to drop Steve an email: esselay.123@btinternet.com

It's worth a mention that Steve Ash has been supplying these at absolute cost to himself, including postage.

I've seen references to not making "much" money on them before, but I think this is the first confirmation I've seen that he's actually been selling them at cost. Given the time and effort involved in any manufacturing effort, he should raise his price and keep something for himself.

Hi Steve and Steve
Just to say I have today received a pair of stub stacks from Steve Ash. They are superbly made and fit the Vokes canister exactly. I would like to recommend anyone contemplating the fitting of these to contact Steve and purchase a pair. Its a shame that these will be hidden from view as they are a credit to Steve and the maker. Thank you both.
Kind Regards Brian

It was actually the combined effort of many on this forum who put it together. It started by me asking what stub stacks were all about, citing a rather rudimentary looking example being marketed by one of the car clubs. As I had a lathe I decided to make one based on numerous inputs from the engineering and airflow experts in our midst - Neil Ferguson and Barney spring to mind and I am sure there were others. I then sent my second prototype to Neil McGurk up in the Lakes who put it on a dyno; then Steve Ash found a manufacturer. I think he ended up supplying over a 100 sets, may be a lot more. Steve Ash can answer that one.

Cheers
