MG MGA - sutty pump

Hi all does anyone happen to know how long the original body was for the Sutty pump as supplied with a 1959 car I seem to have two or three different sizes

Gordon,
Does your wife know about your eBay MGA tool addiction? I think you could save a bob or two if you switched to heroine!

Gordon,
The Sutty pump body from my MGA, assembled April 1959, measures 17 inches, including both alloy end pieces but not including handle/shaft piece.

Ok, I am stupid. What is a Sutty Pump?

My Sutty pump is 17.5 inches long. Alloy end piece to alloy end piece.

Hi guys thanks for that info, anyone know if the end with the feet attatched will unscrew from the pump body as I have the correct feet etc but that body is only about 12 " long must have been for a midget lol

A related question: the body of the Sutty pump that was in the boot of my car ('62 Mk2) when I bought it lo these 23 years ago was completely black (and flaking, and around 17" long), including the alloy end pieces and the wire feet. Its hose fabric is worn but perfectly presentable, if you can get past the odd pea-green color. It has what looks like a schrader valve adapter on the end.

I've seen a number of pumps that had unfinished end pieces, as well as replacement hoses of all sorts. Can anyone satisfy my curiosity as to how the pump bodies were originally finished and what the hose and valve were like?
Mark Lambert

Ok, I missed something. How do you get "Sutty" from "Tire" or "Tyre"? In fact, I was under the impression that on that side of the pond it was referred to as a Bicycle Pump. Was Sutty a Bicycle maker?

Dennis

Sutty is the maker's name. It is on the bottom of the pump. See the image.

Another one for you on Ebay. You should be able to cover off any length with 4 of them!
