MG MGA - tach / third brake lght

dose anyone know how to get a tool on the nut that holds the tach cable in place. do you have to put it on a rack to get it from below? also, has anyone installed a third brake light on their mga and if so, where and how did you do it?

Plenty of us have installed third brake lights. I based mine on basic information from one of the USA-based forum members. This is my version: http://www.mgaroadster.co.uk/Third_Brake_Light.htm

On a LHD car the tach cable comes out of the engine and goes directly through the firewall to the back of the instrument. In my car the cable passes under the wiper motor, but is not clamped en-route.
Where is the nut of which you seek?

I put a new tacho cable in a few weeks ago and the easiest way to get to the knurled nut on the block was through the floorboard space inside the car. I was lucky in that my floorboards still are not fitted in the rebuild! In the past I have undone the nut from above but its awkward - like many jobs on an A! John

I seem to have misunderstood the whereabouts of the nut you were talking about. I have always been able to access the knurled nut from above, and after the first time of removal, I found I could undo it with just my fingers.
Have you tried long nose pliers with the tips bent?
Peter.
