MG MGA - Thanks for your help, I'm going to place an offer
Thanks to all for your help. I'm going to make the plunge on the MGA. The following is an infamously stupid question but I gotta ask anyway: Seller is asking $10,500 for a 1962 Mark II. Body and mechanicals appear to be in good solid condition, as a result of a 5 year old renovation. Interior is in fair plus, good minus condition....everything is functional just worn. Owner replaced carpet, not very well, but replaced, owner replaced leather edging around cockpit with a vinyl replacment, poorly done but whatever. Chrome on items is corroded, needs new seat finishes. Based on the work I'd like to do and and the final bid prices on ebay I'm thinking of offering around $7,500 to $8,000 opinions? Thanks again and if I do end up with the silly thing I'll be back with more questions. Tysen |

The seller's price seems in the ballpark IF the care is actually in "good" condition. BOL, doug |

The MK2, being a bit rarer than the standard 1500 or 1600, will command a bit of a premium. I think the seller is offering you a fair price--but a bit of "horse trading" and dickering over a price is a long and proud American tradition. Offer him a lowball figure and see what happens. Final price is dependent on how bad he wants to sell the car and how desperately you want it. Good luck and I hope you enjoy your new car. |

If he's asking 10.5K, he'll probably take a bit less. A leather seat kit will cost you about $500, and the whole interior (rugs, panels and seats) around $1200. So, assuming the body and mechanicals are in good shape, maybe you should offer $9.5-10K and put the savings into the interior. Miscellaneous cockpit bits are pretty cheap to replace with modern copies, although a new steering wheel is about $200. Good luck, M.D. '57 Coupe |
