Hi all , whilst all you lot are out and about in your MGA's enjoying the sunshine just spare a thought for the utter humilation that I have to suffer, it wouldn't be so bad but the balaclava that I have to wear just in caes someone sees me is so hot lol

Cam Cunningham

Hi Steve you'd better win soon lol, Cam will you believe me if I tell you it's the wife's car, it does at least have a full tool kit still in its wrapper lol, B. W. I was going to put MG badges on it and see how long it was before someone started asking if it was a new model
g c pugh

Gordon,
Don't tell anyone how much fun they are to drive. Let it be our secret.

Ed Bell

Gordon

Who rules your household? Wife is allowed to have a sportscar but you had to sell yours! Something wrong there. Get rid of that estate in the background and get your MG back.

Steve

Hi there are obviously a lot of closet MX5 owners/ hairdressers on here, I know that at couple of our local AH Drivers Club meetings, which were held at the same venue on the same night as the local MX5 club, the MX5 's owned by the Healey club members would often outnumber those attending the MX5 club, the nature of big Healeys being that most of them spend their time in pieces spread over the garage floor lol

Gordon
g c pugh

HI Steve, if only it were that simple the estate has little value i.e. if I fill it with fuel it doubles its' value lol, and I suspect that the same person who rules your household runs mine, well not exactly the same one but you know what I mean

How much fun can it be driving around ia something that refuses to break down?
V Rafter

Gordon,
Nice ride! Even though you don't have an MGA, at least you have a suitable apparatus to acquire your summer tan!
Happy driving!!

Gordon,

Relief is at hand: ebay no 260405446914 It's the real thing - as Dominic suggests and just right for a Cornish Summer. Must be top of the list for your tool kit...

(No problem now), after a disasterous trip to yorkshire in the MGA where i had no choice but place it in a garage to get sorted/naf electrical parts. iwas determined to sell the A & buy an MX5 this was done , nice red mk2, then i decided to go modern on the A & fitted Petronix set up !! changed the car ,unreal !! so now when we open the garage door we are spoilt for choice ,the best of the old & the new @ sensible money, but it is the MGA that we will be taking to Switzerland in June ,more of a challenge & FUN cant wate
colin daly

Hi Colin, you're not making me feel much better lol, here is a pic when I had the same choice you can just see the backside of my then pride and joy, no I don't mean the wife

Gordon,

How about this one then.

You might struggle with the tool kit though. Anyhow, I thought you were going to buy a sailing ship.

Malcolm
Malcolm Asquith

Hi Malcolm, there is just no compasion on this site lol., there is a distinct lack of 18th/19th century ships of the line on ebay at the moment

Driving an MX5...as I do on most occasions (since the MGA coupe body and frame have yet to be reunited) makes the drive a trip...albeit an enjoyable trip. Driving a LBC makes it an adventure since one doesn't know if you're actually going to arrive as scheduled. More fun! Certainy=boring. Never can it be said that driving an MG, TR or similar marque is boring. Always on the ear for an unusual sound. Always grateful for the arrival! Cheers!
Robert Maupin

I agree with Robert, sorry Gordon. I hired an MX5 when I visited Australia 10 years ago. Totally bored driving it. Absolutely no thrill. Too predictable. I guess its totally standard modern style interior and mechanics made it no different than any other modern (at the time) saloon. The only difference was no roof.

Nice gravel and concrete hard standing. Shame about the large black mark on it though ;-)

LOL Dominic !!!

I'll come clean...

Guilty as well!!

I went down to buy a new 91 Miata years ago, cash in hand. They had a special edition BGR version of the car that year. At the time I had not chosen the colors for my next MGA. I was going to make the MGA a twin to the Miata paint and interior colors. Alas I was too late the only Miatas left in the BRG were automatics. That killed that idea. The MK11 is now black with a red interior.

R J Brown

Mazda should have called it a "Whana B". They even copied the exhaust note. They are fun to drive however I have trouble telling which ones are running, there is no oil leak under the car! We have several people here in the mid-west with them and a couple of them have the moss super-charger.
JP Jim

Looks like I had better be more careful so I don't bring out the side of Gordon pictured here....

Hi Dom it's a good job you are far off in foreign parts lol

About a year ago a friend of mine bought an MX5 at about the same time that i swapped my unrestored coupe for the roadster i have now, i think his MX5 is about 10 years old but in fine condition. I let him drive the MGA and he loved it but commented that it had a "vintage" feel about it whilst his car just seemed "modern", ( which is exactly the reason that I love the MGA so much!)
Unfortunately when I accepted his offer of driving the MX5,I sat in the drivers seat, pushed in the clutch, engaged 1st gear and found to my amazement that there wasnt enough space for my leg under the steering wheel for me to let the clutch out! So no drive.
And I had always thought that the MGA was a bit tight for me! I am only 6 feet 1 inch tall whereas my friend and apparently most of the MX5s intended customer base ( Japanese, girlfriends, hairdressers etc ) are all meant to be 4 to 6 inches shorter.

Cheers

Gordon, you've never sounded more interesting! How about a phone number?
Neil McGurk

Gordon, you missed out the other vital characteristic of all MX5 owners - watching "Come Dancing"
dominic clancy

Great thanks Dominic, now I'm a short, Japanese, dancing, transvetite hairdesser, I'm now worried about leaving the house let alone driving an MX5, I'm also booking in to the same clinic as Susan Boyle and Max Mosley is handling my publicity

Gordon
g c pugh

opps I meant Max Clifford !!!!!

a fascist to boot ......

I'll get my coat
dominic clancy

Let's get this bang up to date Gordon, you are now a short, Japanese, dancing, fascist transvetite hairdesser, with a soprano voice and a pointed hat and bell.

Glad I don't have one of those cars. I can see you doing for Mazda what Jasper Carrot did for Skoda.

Steve
Steve Gyles

Sorry about all the comments Gordon but you must admit that this has been one of the funniest threads ever.
I think that all we have proved is that to be an MGA owner you have to have a good sense of humour! (or if not,you will have one forced on you!)

Colyn

well all I can say is, that it's just as well I live down here in Cornwall as I look pretty normal for these parts and fit in quite well, now all I have to do is wait for The Cornish Liberation Army to come knocking

Hey folks,

Not sure why someone only 6' 1" would have any trouble operating the MX5. I'm 6' 4" and have no problem. About five years ago I was looking for an MX5 for my boss. She was looking for one of those electric blue Miatas, the worst color to date, but that's what she ask me to find, if I could. A car club friend of mine told me of a local fellow who was selling his 1991 and that, even though it was not the blue she was loking for, might be worth taking a look at. Well, I went over the see the car. It was an SE model, the BRG over tan version. Remember, this was in Februray 2003. The 1991 SE had..get this, 11,800 miles on it and had every available option, including the hardtop! I called my boss telling her what find this was but she was intent on having the electric blue color. Go figure. Anyway, I was very much taken with the car as it was, for all intent and purposes, a new car and asked the owner how much he was wanting for it. He said he'd like to have $5,000.00. Well, minutes later, I was the happy owner of the car. It now as 110,000, trouble free miles on it. It's getting me through my lack of an operating LBC period. But, I still look forward to the day I'm back behind the wheel of the MGA. Cheers!
