MG MGA - THIRTY THREE YEAR RESTO

It's a driver....one more back on the road. After a long time (33 years) I was finally able to take my MGA Coupe for a toot around the block. If you could have only seen my face ....WOW. The smell and noise of the engine...the solid shift...just exhilorating. There was a time when I never thought I would get there but it was all worth it.

Many thanks to all the members who answered my questions and supplied critical advise ,so that I could get it done. Next step, final adjustments ...inspection...licensing and every weekend on the road. This year I will be at Stowe Vermont.

Thank you....Thank you...Thank you. gordon

33 years, Wow! I just started mine and I am already jonesing to get her back on the road. I drive a Mini Cooper most of the time, but there is nothing like the sound, smell, and pure beauty of a MGA. Enjoy !!!

Congratulations

I restored mine 18 years ago - I use it so much that I think in the meantime it's had a complete second rolling mechanical restoration - I have rebuilt /replaced everything except the diff and starter motor at least once.

i have had my coupe painted for 8 years easy in storage . Procrastination has ruled but I am beating it back with a money stick now . great news to hear you have got your coupe on the road .

Its running but there is still alot of tinkering to do to make it right. I figure another month and it will be the solid reliable car that it once was. The one problem with "finishing" the car or a restoration, is that now comes the time when you "nickle & dime" yourself to death getting all those little parts and pieces. It should be nice thought, I bought a full leather hide on Ebay and the interior is going to be leather. The smell alone should drive me crazy.

Glenn or Kris: a side note ...I found my e-brake stiffening brackets and the guy says he has another pair. He is asking $50.00 Canadian. If you are interested let me know and I will give you his details.

Hey Coupe,

How about a few plaudits for me? I stored your feshly-painted shell in my garage for a winter.

... made my TF look good!

Congratulations!

Hi Gordon. $50.00 sounds kinda steep for a couple of tiny sheet metal brackets that could easily be fabricated. These would be an ideal candidate for crafting from sheet stainless steel, since they would not rust out. Cheers, Glenn

Hi Gord. Congrats. Now that you've got yours on the road, wanna do one of mine for me?

Gordon - Congratulations! My car "only" had to wait 16 years for the start of its restoration, 12 of those under a tarp. I shared your fear of never getting it done; it made me so sad and frustrated. But as you discovered, well forth the wait. Enjoy it!

Gordon,

Nice to hear that you were able to persevere for so long. Have a blast driving your car. I was able to sit in my driver seat today for the first time since 1980. It felt great even though the car is far from completed.
