MG MGA - Twin Cam steering wheel

I have a wheel which looks exactly like the Moss replica # 263-255. Mine has Moto-Lita on back rather than front of one spine. It is a 17" wheel. What are your thoughts?

Bob, what you have here is a Moto Lita reproduction of the original factory competition steering wheel. They are very nice. I have one on my twin cam (not Moto Lita though).

lots of information about these wheels on Mike Lemperts website:

Thanks for the input. I did not want to give it away.
Will be on Ebay in a few days. Any offers?

The OEM part number for that Optional twin cam wheel is AHH5800-Yþ, which you can put into Barney's site for more info.

I ordered from the above vendor and very much wish "I had NOT".

Whilst the wheel I purchased is very nice, I will always remember it as tarnished.

I had a piece of real good fortune and managed to get a NOS original off ebaY motors. It was badly described as MG/A and so missed most peoples searches. The above vendor was very interested, but seems he felt I stole it from under his nose! It even had a NOS centre MG boss!

Bob, have a friend interested in the wheel, have you figured out a buy it now price?

Is there some problem with the Lempert wheels? Other than the long wait?
Del Rawlins

No problems with the Lempert wheels. They are an exact duplicate of the original and high quality. I love mine!
Hiram Shepard

The only 'problem' with the Lempert wheels is that Mike does not engrave his name on them! They are such superb quality that in the future they will be very highly sought after.
I've not fitted mine yet but I sometimes lie awake at night trying to think of an anti-theft device for the wheel!.................Mike

I have not heard of these before, have he been making them for long? I've had the Moto Lita repro via Moss for many years and have always thought the wood tone was a bit light (have it covered in tan leather to match the seats, looks good.

Seriously, are there many Lampert wheels out there?

When I saw a color photo of this wheel on Mike Ellman-Brown's Twin Cam in "MG The AB&C by Chris Harvey, I wanted one for my car, but nothing was available and the remnants of original wheels were prohibitive for price.

I knew the diameter of the wheel and thanks to the excellent photos of an original in Robert Vitrikas' book "A History and Restoration Guide" I was able to extrapolate all the other the dimensions requiered to make one of my own. The wood rim was a Mahogany plank 1&1/2" by 3"" cut into 1/8" thick strops soaked in 25% Ammonia and formed around a form, laminated and trued up between each layer, then machined to final shape, stained and clear coated. The Duralumin wheel is attached to an original hub machined to accept the wheel.

No sooner had I finished this wheel when Moss announced that they were to make replicas. I must confess I like mine better.

Does Lempert have a website? I can't seem to find him, except on 3rd party sites.

Mike Lempert does sign his wheels. Mine is signed on the backside. It is the left spoke of the "T" near the hub.

What a shame Mike Lempert hasn't signed the one I have. He must have started to initial them after I got mine four years ago...............Mike

Hi Bob - as Bill put days ago, he has a friend who was interested (ME!), but you didn't put up any details - have you listed it on ebay yet?

Could you possibly give me an idea of how much it would cost to ship to the UK?

Thanks
