MG MGA - U/J offer

I had to buy an extra U-joint for the prop shaft as I ruined one of the caps during assembly (was not centred right when I screwed the vice!) Job now done OK, and I have a cross piece and 3 good bearing caps spare. If anyone finds themselves in a similar situation and needs an extra cap or cross or circlips, they are free for the postage. This is a Moss unit and has 1.5mm needles which are bigger than original (1mm).
Piece of advice - make sure you de-burr the yoke holes as they will tear the new seals as you push them through.

Art, sounds like you had a "sod-it" moment! Wish I had a pound for every time I've been there!

Exacctly. I actually managed to get one of the needles pushed to the back of the cap, lying flat. Then it got crushed when it limited how far I could push it in. I then thought I could use one of the old rollers only to find they were a different diameter! And I studied John Twist's You Tube video of his "5 minute Universal joint change" many times. Very mpressive even if it did take him 6 1/2 mins! It makes it difficult when the yoke designer makes a yoke with sloping ends so it does not sit square in the vice.

Reminds me of the time I was rebuilding a Villier 9E 2 stroke kart engine to go racing the next day.
I was refitting the alloy piston being very careful how I installed the needle roller little-end bearings.

I remember cursing the supplier for sending me a kit with a needle roller missing.
I fitted a new spare roller, finished the rebuild and went racing the next day.

All went well until my third race of the day when the engine stopped with a loud bang. When I took the head off I found the missing roller embedded vertically in both the top of the piston and the cylinder head.
I must have dropped it down into the crankcase!
Amazingly the roller came out and apart from an interesting looking hole in the piston and the head, all was ok!

I learned to be much more careful after that
