While trying to track down an annoying vibration thats evolved I took the fan twix finger and thumb and gave it a wobble, I can feel a little play but I dont know if this is normel, any comments please,

Sorry i should add that its a 5 main engine from a B if that makes any diferance.

Hi Vin
assuming that the set screws holding the fan on to the waterpump are tight, any wobble of the fan must be due to play in the waterpump bearings. If the pump bearings are worn you will probably notice some kind of noise from them varying with engine speed and possibly a water leak eventually from beneath the pulley.
let me know if you want me to give you a hand with it, you cant be too far away from me here in doncaster

A very small amount of free play in water pump bearings is normal, just enough that you can feel it wiggle. I still have one similar that was reinstalled on my 150,000 engine after rebuild in 1986, did another 100,000 miles by 1997, was then transferred to another engine that I still have. That water pump is approaching 1/4 million miles and is still working (although parked at the moment).

Thanks colyn thats a very nice offer but after reading Barneys comments I think its probably ok for another 100k miles lol.
Oh and by the way I found the vibration,it was the return spring for the bonnet catch, sorted,
