MG MGA - Water Pump Noise?

I have just returned from a 30 mile run and noticed a slight "rumbling" noise from the front of the engine of my Mk 2 1622 coupe I suspect the water pump- the noise is not loud and appears to go when the engine is revved (engine noise may be drowning the rumble?)The Fan has a very minute front to back movement when rocked - It sounds to me like a bearing going but members confirmation would be helpfull

Sounds like the pump. Remove the fan belt and start the car, if the noise is gone it has to be the pump or the generator.

You can also use a stethescope or a piece of wood dowel (or eveb a long screwdriver) pressed against the waterpump or generator while the engine is running to isolate the location of the noise.

If you have an original type water pump with a screw in the top of the body, remove the screw, squirt some 90wt hypoid gear oil in the pump body to lube the pump. I have done this every couple of years on my A's original pump, it is part of the maintenance schedule of the original MGA, still working (knock wood!) Hopefully the rumble will clear up.
The front bearing on the generator is a sleeve bearing with no provision for lube,(short of occasionally removing it, removing the pulley, putting the generator upright and soaking a bit of light oil into the bearing), it can make a lot of different noises as it expires.

Thanks Guys
The water pump is obviously a replacement as no means of lubricating it . Using a piece of dowel the noise appears from the water pump area so have ordered a new pump from the owners club together with all new bolts etc -A enjoyable day at the weekend changing it over! I recently did the same to my MGB but that pump was leaking and obviously needed replacement.
