MG MGA - Wheel/Knock off's

Question. May sound dumb but bare with me. Is the only disc steel wheel with knock off ears only fitted on the 1600 MkII or the Deluxe? And can these wheels be fitted to an original wire wheel set up or is a modification needed?.. Thanks. Clive..

MGA disk wheels with knockoffs are pin drive wheels (no splinies), only fitted to Twin Cam and "Deluxe" cars (not for 1600-MK-II).

If you are talking about factory standard wheels, only the Twin Cam and the Deluxe had the steel wheels with the knock off ears. The normal 1600 MK11 did not have those wheels, but there was a 1600 MK11 Deluxe model.
They used completely different hubs with a peg drive instead of splines (see image).
It would be possible, but a major task, to fit them to a splined hub car. Also, you would have to consider whether you were going to fit the four wheel disc brakes that they had. All this is a bit theoretical as the parts would be hard to find and very expensive.

Clive, you can fit minilite alloy style wheels to your splined hubs.

Those beautiful Racemettle alloy wheels are also available in bolt-on, spline drive, and peg drive. They are similar in appearance to the factory steel wheels, but wider. If the exchange rate gets a little more favorable, I might be tempted.

Mr. Allen, you might like the appearance of the new design wheel from Performance Superlite out of Australia, distributed over here in the US by Acme Speed Shop. The hub is much cleaner looking and is supposed to be a couple of pounds lighter per wheel as well. http://www.acmespeedshop.com/
