MG MGA - Where to get Halogen Headlamps (LHD)?
Can anyone tell me where to get Halogen headlamps for a left hand drive? Thanks, Ian
Ian Pearl
Ian I went to http://www.holden.co.uk/hvc-home.htm to buy left hand drive lights last summer for my trip to France. I have just checked their site and they do appear to stock what you need. However, the salesman told me to save my money and buy the stick on convertors - which I did. Worked okay I presume as I never got pulled over by the police or flashed at by other motorists. There again, I never drove at night!! Steve

Ian Did I misinterperate your question? Is it a left hand drive car for driving on the right side of the road, or just left hand drive as we do over here in the UK and Ireland? Either way, the supplier information is the same, just forget my anecdote about France! Regards Steve

Ian So what you really meant was that you wanted the lights for a right hand drive! I am going to Le Mans in June. Will you be there? Regards Steve
Steve Gyles
Steve, Almost. What I really want if left hand drive lights for a right hand drive car. Don't really know what the difference is, I guess they just throw the light to the left.
Ian Pearl
It depends on which headlight set you have. I think that Tripods have a centre dip pattern.

Ian I think I know what you mean? My interpretation is that you want lights for driving in France. If so, they should dip to the right, with full beam straight ahead or where ever you adjust them to point. Steve

| Ian; The most simple thing that you could do would be to wait until you get on the continent and then go to any automotive store and you should be able to purchase off the shelf headlights. any place in Belgium or Germany will have the white lights and I presume that the yellow ones are available in France. They will be a direct plug in. | Sandy, The France and twenty four other country constitute the Europe community with white headlights everywhere. Best regards. |

I did this conversion years ago as my car came with me to Switzerland from the UK. You cannot just replace the bulbs, you have to replace the headlamp itself, as it is the LENS that is different between LHD and RHD. The bulbs themselves are (as far as I am aware) standard to both. Once you have installed the new headlamps, they need to be aligned too. The headlamps are not as freely available on the mainland as you would expect, as there are now very few cars that use round headlamps. Try http://www.s-v-c.co.uk/ as I know that they have what you need

Michel; Je vous remerci infiniment; Thank you for the info. When I lived in France 1958-1963 the French headlight requirement was for Yellow lights. I was in the Montmedy-Meuse region.I was not aware that it had changed to white. Sandy Sanders
