MG MGA - Which way do the darn bolts go?

I'm replacing the brake disks and I'm trying to figure out which way the bolts go in....the bolt head on the outside with the hub, with the nuts inside the disk flange or the nuts on the outside.

Clausagers book clearly show the heads on the outside, but when I try putting them in the bolts will NOT go through the hub side, they stick on the bolt shoulders. They will however go in through the disk side, which would require the nut to be on the outside and the bolt head on the inside.

By the way its a 1960 Mark I with lockheed disk brakes.

Assume you are working without a manual here. When bolt on steel wheels fitted, a cross section shows a special headed countersunk type of "bolt" which would appear to be press fitted through the hub from the outside then acting as a stud. Nuts and single coil lock washers are then fitted inside the recess in the disc.

When wire wheels fitted its looks as though similar bolts are used but now pass through the splined hub flange again from the outside.

Have you got the correct type of bolt?
