MG MGA - Wire wheels

Have an MGA 1500 1958, and would like to change my normal bolt on wheels into to wire weels. At present the size of the tyres is Tubless Radial 175/65/14.
Can I put on the MG A 14 and/ or 15 " whire weels, with center lock conversion?.Could I use the "old tubless tyre" on the new wire wheel,

You can certainly fit centre lock wheels. There are 2 types of hub available for these, one for use with drum brakes and another type when fitted with discs. I Assume you are running drums all round on your 1500. You will also have to fit a different brake drum at the rear.

Henrich, your car should have 15" wheels, not 14".

Two methods for conversion to wire wheels, one is to replace the front hubs with the wire wheel type hub and replace the rear axle assembly with one for wire wheels, the second is to use bolt on wire wheel adaptors which bolt to your existing wheel studs. These do space the wheels outwards a bit, but should work if you don't use extremely large tires. Wheel size for an MGA is 15", the 14" wheel was used on the MGB. As far as reusing the existing tires, they can be used, but tubes will be needed with most wire wheels. There are some wire wheels that can be sealed to work with tubeless tires, but these also require a different bead area on the rim. Original type MG wheels will not seal properly to the tire bead even if the spokes are sealed. I would assume that used mg parts are not easy to come by where you are, so with that in mind I'd think the easiest solution for your car would be the bolt on adaptors along with new wheels which you can order from sources such as Moss.

Check the http://www.britishwirewheel.com/wheels.htm site for info on new wire wheels that are available in tubless form. They have both bolt-on and spline hub types.

And they also have the Dayton direct bolt on wire wheels, seen here at the bottom of the page: http://www.britishwirewheel.com/conversions.htm These are probably the easiest to accomplish, since there are hub or axle replacements. These are definitely not for purists, but are quite a good wheel for the MGA that is driven frequently or just for fun. I had them on my MGA, found Daytons to be an excellent wheel, the tubeless feature very nice, and the direct bolt ons were easy maintenance and easy to keep clean around the spokes. FWIW.

correction: "There are NO hub or axle replacements."
