MG MGA - Wiring harness suppliers

I'm going to need one. Any opinions on suppliers ? I'd like something with an original look, and don't mind paying for quality.

Thanks,

A supplier of very good quality vintage wiring harnesses is:

http://www.vinwire.com.au

These are quite expensive but the best.
The owner of the company is a mga twin cam owner so when you see a MGA 1500 Twin Cam listed he is of course describing the body type not the engine.
The MGA harness is of course different for the 1500 and 1600 body styles.
With all enquiries they ask if it is a LHD or RHD car.

I would also like to add a vote for Vinwire - if you need modifications for relays etc, they will add them into the loom to your specifications.

Check out British Wiring in Bally Pa.

www.britishwiring.com

I brought a number of items from them to finish my Triumph Bonneville MC. They have the correct color coded wire, measured in strands, and all the connectors, etc. The owner is friendly and shipping is fast. Highly reccomend.

The ones from Moss etc are available in original braid finish and the last one I installed was perfectly satisfactory

Scarborough Faire supplies very good wiring harness at a fair price.
I did get one from Moss last year. It was OK but had problems with the light bulb sockets (lights would not tighten down), a few of the light sockets were the newer push-in style instead of screw-in, but work OK and some of the wire gauge for tail lights seemed a bit on the small side, but no problems yet.

Thanks, everyone ! Just the info I needed. Barney's site, as usual, has some great tips and tricks for getting things installed. My first time at this particular chore, so wish me luck on getting all the lights back on !

Although I didn't get my wiring harness from Moss, I did have the same problem as GTF with the screw-in type bulb holders for the instrument panel. The bulbs wouldn't screw right down or stay in because the screw part of the holder was too big and the bulb just slopped about in it. I ended up removing and re-fitting the bulb holders from the old wiring harness. So don't throw your old harness away Chuck!

The bulb socket issue has gone through several changes in recent years. First the sockets were loose and wouldn't hold a bulb because tooling was worn out, and the socket manufacturer refused to replace tooling when no one would pay the cost. British Wiring in Olympia Fields, IL, was sold and moved to Bally, PA, about the same time that the plastic plug-in sockets came into use to confuse everyone.

Fairly recently I think Moss Motors commissioned someone to make new tooling for the screw in sockets with not-so-great results. Apparently the new sockets are too small so standard size bulbs won't go in, but some slightly under size bulbs will work (the same bulbs that pop out of the older loose sockets). I think Moss now supplies bulbs that fit along with the new sockets and harnesses, so that works (as long as you know where to buy the right under size bulbs).

There are some fixes for the older loose sockets, essentially crimp the thread on the sides to make it hold a bulb. The plastic plug-in sockets bug every one, but I think they will likely go out of supply soon.

Bottom like is, it's still confusing. I am keeping tabs on all this on my web site. If anyone has any additional information, do tell.

Brown and Gammons in the UK. I just bought one and installed it. Very happy with the quality.

You might also want to consider www.advanceautowire.com. I used one of their kits in a 74 midget and was extremely pleased.

I use Autosparks in the UK for looms, but I cannot vouch for the current bulb holders.
