MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Electrics with a v6 or v8 conversion

I am still gathering information on doing the v6 conversion, and I started wondering about the electronic issues if any may arise. Will any of the gauges need to be modified, i.e. the tach will be reading from a v6 instead of the original 4.

thanks
Zach

Zach, the tach will have to be modified or else you can get a new unit for either 6 or 8 cylinders from xks.com.(check the archives for information) If you use any form of electronic fuel injection you will have to wire in the computer and sensors. Ignition wiring should be straight forward even with an electronic unit. The alternator wiring is nearly the same for a GM alternator and there are threads on this conversion in the archives for MGB and midget. The starter circuit is the same except that the solenoid for the GM starter is mounted on the starter and isn't a seperate piece (not sure about the Rover unit). If you use a Ford engine, the existing solenoid should work fine. The original temp and oil pressure gauge should adapt without problem.
Don't forget to add good ground cables from the block to the chassis and you should be in business.
