MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Factory V-8 Wiring and Brake Line Runs
When I disassembled my Factory V-8 for restoration, I was careful to take photos of all the wiring and piping runs underneath the car - since I KNEW deep down that my bodyman would drag out the bodyshell work just long enough for me to forget how everything goes together. Well, I think I have enough pictures to jog my memory in most locations. My problem is that several DPOs have mucked about with the wiring and piping under the bonnet in the process of "Federalizing" the car. Since none of the existing photos of Factory V-8s show enough detail, I have a few questions: First, regarding the wiring subharness from the gearbox (reverse lamp and overdrive connections). I know the harness is held to the gearbox by two clips, one clip is held in place by one of the bellhousing bolts: Which bellhousing bolt holds the clip? Is it one of the top two bolts, or one of the bolts farther down on the right side? How is this harness routed once it emerges from the bellhousing clip? Does it come more or less straight up along the firewall to intersect the connections just to the right of the heater box atop the firewall shelf, or does it extend along the firewall/right fenderwell junction before doubling back across the firewall shelf to the connection? Are there any additional clips in the engine bay that hold this part of the harness? Finally, regarding the brake line that runs from the output banjo of the servo to the left front wheel. I know that this line makes a 180 degree bend just above the flex line junction, passes under the left frame rail (where it is held by a loop clip), and then extends up the left fenderwell inside the engine bay, near the firewall junction (another loop clip holds it here). The line then disappears alongside the windscreen washer bottle, where it must make a 90 degree turn toward the center of the car, and another 90 degree turn upwards to intersect the banjo fitting on the servo. My question is, are there any loop clips that hold the line behind the washer bottle housing, and is my routing description more or less correct? Now that I have confused you all, anyone out there able to help? Thanks very much in advance, Paul Kile |

Paul K, I will have a look at mine and get back to you. Have to bear in mind that mine may well have been mucked about with over the years, of course, e.g. the brake pipes have been replaced with copper. Cheers, PaulH. |
