MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Ford Mustang rear end questions

I'm planning a 302 conversion using a late model roller cam engine and a WC T5 five speed gearbox. I have not located, or for that matter even decided on, a rear end for the conversion. However, I have a friend parting out a 91 mustang 5.0 convertible that still has an automatic transmission and rear end. He tells me that if I want a strong rear end, not to use the one is his car because the convertibles used a smaller, inferior rear end because the chassis design did not allow a "larger" rear end. Is there any truth to this, or does he know what he's talking about? I thought all Mustangs from this year used the 8.8.

My second question has to do with gearing. The transmission I have has the 0.63 ratio overdrive. Did the Mustangs that came with an automatic have generally higher or lower ratios than the cars that came with the five speed? It seems as if the automatic cars and rear ends are more plentiful in junk yards. Otherwise, how hard would it be to fit a new gear set? I have experience rebuilding the Dana 44 and 60.

The only cars that had smaller rear ends are the 4cyl cars. so if it was a 4cyl Vert yes it is the smaller 7.5 which you don't want.
