MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - Oilpumpbase abuts to the crossbolt

Hi folks,

the work is almost done, but there is one main problem left:
I have a 4,6l crossboltet engine in my 71 mgb roadster. The problem is that the oilpumpbase abuts to the crossbolt in the front. Even if I screw off the crossbolt, the oilpumpbase abuts to the engine block.

I asked some suppliers if there are different front covers or oilpumpbases but they negate.

Does anyone had the same problem and have a solution for it?

Any help is highly appriciated.

Marcus,
Are you using the 4.6L front cover then?
I have a 4.6L but used an Buick V6 front cover, old style range rover oil pan and oil pickup and 3.9L camshaft. I have yet to run the motor but all bolts up fine and built oil pressure with a drill turning the oil pump shaft. The oil pump on the stock 4.6L is on the end of the crankshaft so I am not sure what you are trying to use.

Mike,

thanks for your reply.

I'm using the SD1 front cover. I've send you some pics to your email account.

I had the exact same problem.
What you need to do is recess the hole and use an allen bolt like the crossbolts at the flywheel end.
Even after doing this you still have to relieve the ally block slightly with a file.
Hope this helps.

Or use a Buick V6 oilpump base and swivel from D&D.

I had no problem using that instead.

Mark,

could you mail me your email adress so I can send you some pics to show you exactly the problem? It would be great if you could send me some of your solution too. (mgiesus@yahoo.com)

I'm a little affraid to cut off about a cm from the engine block and drill a hole into the boss to use a socket head cap screw or something like this.

Best regards,

You have mail.
Where did you get your oil pump base from as I think there are several varieties.
Best obtained from Clive Wheatley.
Recently fitted a 4.6 into a friends Datsun 240z and his crossbolt needed more alteration than mine as his base was completely different.
