MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - T50 on eBay
Didn't know if anyone else might be interested in this, I've already got one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33733&item=2411166832&rd=1 |

I believe that is the wide ratio T-50, which is not the one you want for a V8 conversion. The preferred tranny is either the close ratio T-50 or the non-OD T-50. Either of those can make an excellent choice. The non-OD works well with 3.31 gears. Jim |

Jim, How can you tell its a wide ratio trans? |

He really doesn't give enough to go on. None of the T-50's had either a 3:1 low gear or a .75% overdrive. However, IIRC the close ratio box had a groove cut around the input shaft, and I could not see any groove on the one in the photo. That combined with the incorrect info on the ratios leads me to believe it is the less desireable box used behind the 4 cylinder engines which had a 3.41 1st gear and a .80 overdrive. For reference, the MGB tranny has a 3.64 1st gear, the close ratio T-50 is 3.10, and a generic Muncie 4 speed is 2.56, which shows the close ratio T-50 would be much more desireable than the wide box. Much more detail is available in back issues of the MGB-V8 Newsletter (now British V-8), including information about other popular transmission choices. It's a great resource, and well worth the cost to simply buy the set. Jim |

Jack, If you're looking for a T-50 tranny I have one pulled from behind a 215 biuck V8. E-mail me if your interested. I'll check the reatio's to be sure it is the close ratio. |
