MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - V8 T5 behind 60 deg. V6

I want to use a V8 GM t5 behind a 60 degree V6 3.1L engine. OK, I know the bellhousings are different and the spline count/diamteter on the input shaft is different. Using a V6 bellhousing and mixing and matching clutches and pressure plates should solve the spline issue. However, (and this I cannot find info on the web), will the length of the V8 input shaft be the correct length when the V8 T5 is bolted to the V6 bellhousing???
Tom Lang

Tom, A possible lead for the information you require is Bill Guzman who makes the V6 conversion kits with the T5 gearbox.

Tom,
You are better off just swapping out the input shaft for the correct unit. This will make things much easier, no having to mix/match clutch parts, etc.. Just use all the V6 parts and Be happily cruising down the road. I tiwll also help for the time when you need a part and the guy at the parts counter is clueless and can't find his backside unless you know what model car it is in...
Larry Embrey

The V8 box is the one to use(26 input splines, 27 output) IF it has the tall, .63 overdrive. Not all V8 boxes had it. The .63 boxes have a Borg and Warner PN 1352-213 or GM PN 1019-2298. The Clutch plate will be the only custon issue, and if you buy two when you do it, you should be good for quite a few years. Larry's idea is good if the input gear from the V8 will go on the input shaft fron a V6. The problem is that T5s are not that common, and you will either buy a V6 box for the parts, or have a shop sell you an input shaft and install the gear from your V8. Either way, it works out cheaper than a new rear end for relaxed highway driving.
