MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - V8 Wiring Harness
Hello again I am replacing the wiring loom in my 1970 B which is also getting a V8. It is a chrome bumper obviously and I was wondering if it is worth the extra 15 pounds to get a V8 chrome bumper harness from the B hive? ie will this harness go in easily as if the car had been a factory V8? TIA Stainzy |

Stainzy, I think you will have more trouble adapting a V-8 spec harness to a 1970 car than you will with making the few modifications to the 1970 harness for the V-8 engine. The biggest changes are lengthening the distributor, coil and alternator wires (a small task) and putting in an electric fan circuit and relay (a slightly bigger task). The 1973/4 V-8 had rocker switches on the dash, and their placement was somewhat different than the switches on the 1970 UK-spec cars. In addition, if you are doing a roadster (you didn't specify), the V-8 harness would have some superfluous connections, like the heated rear window and rear courtesy light. I would buy a 1970 harness and modify it to suit the engine and fans. Cheers, Paul Kile |

Stainzy, Paul has a point. Two other potential problem areas -the Factory V8 had the wiper and overdrive switches are on a stalk on the steering column, and also the rev counter connections will probably be different to your '70 B. Hope this helps Dave |

Thanks guys, You're absolutely right of course (and it is a roadster by the way). I'll just go and buy the original for the 1970 4 cylinder and modify it. Thanks again, Stainzy |
