MG MGB GT V8 Factory Originals Technical - V8 Magnette
Does anyone have any details or pictures of a V8 modified Magnette. I currently have a two litre tune(MGB) engine fitted with an overdrive box, but want more. I have fitted a 4.2 V8 to my MGB and am aware of the problems, like steering column, front crossmember, inner wing clearance, transmission tunnel, etc. This will not stop me though, but I am hoping somebody out there can make it a bit easier for me... The car has just undergone a 394 hour rebuid which includes anti-roll bars front and rear, uprated springs/dampers, disk brakes and a relocated battery box (under the rear seat) and a twin open exhaust system already plumbed in, in preperation for.... The V8 with an SD1 5 speed box. Any help appreciated. I am also selling a lot of the existing gear if anyone is interested: - Front wire wheel conversion kit for MG Magnette, uses MGA wire wheel hubs and drums direct replacement for existing drums includes recently purchased hardened brake shoes and wheel cylinders + brake servo (ready to drop onto the kingpins) Fully tried and tested over 3 years of use £340 Fully rebuilt MGB 2 litre engine with fast road cam, twin 1 3/4 SU's, Aldon distributor with Piranha electronic ignition, custom made tubular manifold, straight through exhaust system. Engine sump taken from Magnette and oil pickup modified. Fully rebuilt and re-bushed MGB overdrive gearbox with bell-housing modified for Magnette, custom made propshaft to mate with overdrive box. Alternator and Dynamo conversion details. Spare stage 2 head (would require repair) excellent runner. £1300 This pulls like a train. Currently fitted to the Magnette which can be test driven about Feb/March 2003 (car not quite finished yet) £1640 OR £1400 If all bought together. One pair of heavy duty wheel dollies bought from Machine Mart for £41 per pair, unused (badly thought out idea!!!), sell for £30. Dave Lord |

I think Bob Pulleyblank down in Dorset was building or planning one such car a couple of years ago.... |

Don't know about a V8, but a friend of mine has installed a Merc 16V 4 pot into his Magnette with the 5 speed box. It had 230hp at the wheels, he says it goes quite well. I'll get him to send you some details |

Greetings. I know of one ZedB V8 Magnette project underway in St.Louis, MO. I have seen one V6 conversion on a ZedA out in California. I have seen neither run at this time. rick |

You'll also see a Hi-Flow Supercharged Magnette in an upcoming MG World or so I'm lead to believe! |
