MG MGB Technical - 4 speed O/D into a 67

I'm considering buying a 67 B with a noisey first and reverse gear. I presently own a 74 BGT with 4 speed all syncro O/D and love it. How much modification to the transmission tunnel is required to fit the later 4 speed all syncro O/D gearbox to the 67?

Thanks Andy

There is heaps in the archives and the most comprehensive was written by Olly Stephenson.

You will find the thread covers all aspects. Most agree it is well worth the change and the loss of originality is insignificant compared with the gain in driveability.

Agreed. I have a 66B with the later model transmission w. O/D. Love it. Gearshift moves back about 1.5 inches with the conversion, but only the absolute purist would notice the difference inside the car.

I have to agree. I have a 66B with a 4synco non-overdrive. The difference in appearance is not great, and the modification to the transmission tunnel is not significant. (I had a local mg specialist modify mine.)

In hindsight I wish I had put an overdrive gearbox in.

I have a couple of photos on my web site that give you an idea of the mods.

Did this conversion myself on a 67 GT. Minimal work to the top of the tunnel is required to relocate the shifter cover. There is other work involved depending on the type of engine you are using.

Ping me off list O.K. ? .
