MG MGB Technical - Best Lift Type for LBC's

If one were to purchase a lift for work on MG's which of the two type's would be best? The two post with adjustable arms or the four post with drive on ramps. Just hoping to get some ideas from those out there that have used lifts to work on our cars.

I like the two post with the adjustable arms.

Everything is accessible, with the four poster, you've got the wheelways and cross pieces in the way. If you want to work on the suspension..it's a no go. However, if you need to stack a couple cars, doubling up garage space, the four poster is great. You can fit drip pans between the wheelways and braces, so as to keep your MGA from leaking all over the MGB, or vice-versa. If it's pure maintenance, go with the two post model.

Frank,

I have the four-poster model and I gotta say that I don't know how I ever got along without one. I got mine as a result of a space issue, four cars in a three car garage. It is very handy for most minor maintenance jobs, oil changes, etc. Mine has a bridge which can be moved between the ramps to jack the car up while its on the lift in case one needs to change a tyre etc. One other thing about the four-poster, it seems rigid and strong. Mine is capable of 7000 lbs.

Hope this helps. Cheers - Dennis - Sacramento

Frank,

I should have added, the company I used is Reeds Sales & Service in Salina, KS. They delivered and set up my lift. I was very impressed with their service and the company in general. Their lifts come with a set of casters which means you can move the life around where you want it. Even with a car on it. Check out their website, <www.rtoplift.com>. I guess that I need to say, "I have no commerical interest in this company". I just like their product.
