MG MGB Technical - Biased Needle on HS4

I have just changed needles on my carbs to AAA because of changing to K&N's. On the front carb the sleeve that holds the needle had a small bump on it to bias the needle in one direction (towards the engine side of jet, correct me if this is wrong). On the rear carb this bump had been filed off by DPO so the needle isn't biased. The carbs seem to function OK and I had no problem setting mixture etc.
Question is, is this a problem? and why are the needles biased?
It wouldn't be much hassle to replace the filed part but I don't see the point if it makes little change.
