MG MGB Technical - Boot Release Cord/Cable

I haven't seen where anyone has come up with one so while I'm involved in the fun part of a restoration (putting her back together !)on my '71B I thought I'd try.

I drilled a 1/8 hole through the upper part of the spring loaded lever arm (the boot lock pushes that) and tied a strong nylon cord through the hole. Directly in front of the lock on the cockpit bulkhead I drilled a small hole up at the very top which can not be seen from the seat area unless one looked up under the rail around the back of the cockpit. I pushed the line through and checked that there would be enough cord so that the boot lid could be opened fully and then tied a knot then a loop in the cord. One smart tug on the loop and the boot lid was released ! The cord in the trunk interferes with nothing as is, or one could add a small stick-on fairlead to the front of the lid to further capture the cord against the boot lid. To further disguise the installation I duct-taped the loop up under that rail so it will be ready in case I ever need it.
Works like a damn !

Al - Good show! A lot of us have talked about this very thing, but like me, all are waiting for the day that we can't get into the boot to implement the change. Dave

Now THERE's an idea I plan to implement. After all, in this part of the world every time you drive into a parking lot of a mall, supermarket, arena, theatre, whatever, the security guys want to rummage around in the boot before they let you in.
I get sick of getting out of the car to open the boot for them (how lazy is THAT?).
Give me an excuse to clean up and oil the locking mechanism as well/ ;-P

If you look through the archives you will also find some very good ideas for rigging the bonnet-pull as well - because the consequences of a snapped or seized bonnet release cable are just too terrible to think about.

Good point, Marc.
One such front hood release shares the grommet hole for the headlight wiring on the drivers side to both guide and conceal the aux. release cable. Not a bad idea. Thanks to who ever came up with that! (wasn't me!!)
