MG MGB Technical - Car Won't Start

Hope you don't mind me asking a general question (not necessarily MG). The MG is fine, it's the Rover I'm having problems with!

It wouldn't start this morning. I've had the car a year and have had no problems whatsoever. I only cleaned it yesterday and didn't actually use it (although I did turn it over in order to back it off the drive). When I came to use it this am, it wouldn't start. It turns over (although it sounds different) but it refuses to fire.

I wonder if anyone has any thoughts

Thanks
Rick

Rick,
I have experienced an identical sounding problem on a couple of occasions. Yours may be different, but...
If your car has fuel injection then it is most probably flooded if you only started it, backed it off the drive and then turned the engine off without it warming up a bit. The solution in my case was to remove the fuse that the fuel pump runs through and keep on turning the engine over until it eventually fired and then replace the fuse.
HTH,
Andy.

Rick,
I had something similar in a Toyota Corolla once that proved almost impossible to diagnose. The car would not fire up when the temperature was very close to 0 degrees C, but would be fine any other time. Turns out that as the temperature approached zero, the moisture condensed out (dew) and this was enough to short the coil through an invisible hairline crack at the top of the coil. When it warmed up a little, everything was fine. It was a wierd problem and hard to duplicate.
