MG MGB Technical - changing speedo drive worm

Hi All,

I have the 4 synchro LH overdrive gearbox out of my toy and want to change the speedo drive worm.

I have seen in an the archives that it can be done by removing the rear bearing.

Can anyone give any advice re extracting the bearing?

regards

Terry

It's a press-fit both onto the shaft and into the casing, I don't see what you would get a purchase on to pull the bearing out of the casing and off the shaft.

So Paul, I guess you are saying here, don't do it unless you have the right tool? I can appreciate that having attempted some jobs, later regretting having started! Is there a specified specialist tool? Or does one drift the parts out having seperated them from all others? And Terry, Often after finally getting a part off, and being satisfied, you then realise you have to get the new part on? You may need a hydraulic press. Mike

*Is* there a tool that can reach through a ball bearing and pull it both out of the casing and off the shaft? It seems unlikely to me, but then I've been surprised by the ingenuity of others before.
