MG MGB Technical - Clutch master reservoir leaking

This leaks at the bottom.I filled it and in a couple of days quite a bit had leaked down the pedals.
I removed it. Is it time for a new one or can this be fixed? It was working fine.

Jose;

It is possible to rebuild them with a new seal kit. The condition of the bore in the master cylinder determines if it will hold up for any length of time. If you find it pitted, I suggest you replace it with a new one. I have rebuilt one that had some pitting inside in the past, and it lasted about one year.
If it is in decent shape, you could hone clean, but instead of using stones, I wrap 400 wet or dry sandpaper around the hone and hone it wet with brake fluid. Then thoroughly clean with alchohol prior to assembly. Bench bleed to test and save a little time and effort later.

Good luck,

Is it the reservoir itself leaking (from your
thread title)? This happened to me, in which
case its best to replace the MC. If fluid is
leaking down the pushrod itself, then you may be
able to rebuild with new seals.
Ronald

If the reservoir is leaking it has probably rusted through and hence is scrap, I've had to replace both a brake and a clutch m/c because of this. Sprayed the new ones with clear laquer.

How do you suppose those pits get in MC bores? Can there be corrosion in an anaerobic system from water droplets that cannot be taken up by LMA brake fluids?
