MG MGB Technical - Floor pan tidy up Sill repair Cont..
Dear All, Thanks for all the good advise earlier and I have settled with a plan of action. I have got a quote from a local MG garrage to replace the outer, inner membrane, castle rail and repair inner sill (I have been advised that the rest of the inner sill appears OK, but will have to wait and see)on both sides. Also the front wings are badly rotten around the headlights and so I am also having the front wings replaced rather than just the bottom repair panel welded in. OK the quote I got for this work was ~£1200 or ($1700 US). Does this seem a) Reasonable? b) The right choice? I do Love my car and I would be willing to pay this to have it repair even if it would not increase its value by as much. It has a recently rebuilt engine and I have an overdrive to go in once I have had the car fixed. Thanks Again Matt |

Matt Having just replaced the rockers and floor pans on my project MGB myself. I would say that if the $1700 US ($2700 CAN) includes the cost of all parts inc the wings ( fenders to us) and painting I would say its a bargain. BUT are they going to put in a full outer rocker which means they must cut away the bottom of the rear fender or are they going to use a "short" outer rocker panel? Regards Brian. |

Brain, Yes they are cutting the bottom off the rear fender and replacing the whole outer rocker and then repairing the rear fender by welding a repair panel to the bottom of it. I thought it sounded a good price and I trust the guy who is doing it, he has done other work for me before and it was always to a high standard. Regards Matt |

The front wings are £200 each and the sill repairs should cost around £300 a side so that is £1000. If the £1200 includes painting then it is a bargain. |
