MG MGB Technical - Front suspension bushings

1972 MGB
Thinking of putting some new front suspension bushings, mainly lower A arm,on before the beginning of the season. I've gone through some old posts and they often end up on a different topic from the original question. So im looking to just tighten things up a bit, no drifting round corners or Mialta racing. What Moss/Victoria bushings would be good AND any advise/help in changing them....
Thanks as always in advance

Used the red ones from VB...worked fine...although would change the upper fulcrum bushigs as well, while you there...I just post jacked the crossmember, lowered the aframe...and pulled out spring...and there you go...freshened up the lower swivel as well...keep the antiseize handy...

I used the steel cored rubber V8 bushings. They have been in the car for 20 years now and have given me superb handling without the harsh ride and feed back through the steering wheel of some of the stiffer bushings on the market. They can be installed using a press or even a vice. RAY

Gerry,

If you harden the front silent blocs, do the same to the rear ones to keep the car balance matching. I would retain either the V8 bushes or the red/yellow uréthane too but most important is to keep the car balanced: I had installed V8 ones on the front subsquently car had got sensibly under-steering. While replacing them, it may be difficult to withdraw top and bottom fulcrum bolts, so plan the replacement kits. And at refitting, use silicone grease in order to prevent sizing in.

Looked through the VB site. Pete, when you say the red bushings, are these the Polyurethane ones ?
Gerry

Yes...much more durable than the originals...Guy makes a good point; anticipate stubborn trunnion pins...
Pete

So an i taking the A arm of completely and using a vice to press the bushings in ?
I'm about to put the front on axle stands, the suspension is v clean and i don't anticipate to many seized nuts. How long to do both sides upper and lower ?

Hi Gerry,
I fitted Std V8 front rubbers using a vice and liquid soap (work quickly, don’t let the soap dry) – piece of old talkie (easy). No seized bolts, comfortable 4hrs. Read Paul Hunts Hammer & Spanner first for tricks, sorting out seized bolts and being well prepared. It is actually and easy job.

I did entire front end in a weekend, incl all bushings, new shocks, steering rack boots, outer tie rod ends, springs, sway bar bushes and c-member bushings...and all cleaned up...Its a grimmy job though...Then I attacked the rear end bushings the following weekend...

ps...a hand held dremel with a small cutting wheel can convince any nut to surrender...

Pete

Brilliant guys, i'll get the card out and order the bushings from VB. Have a brill weekend everybody.
