MG MGB Technical - fuel line with fuel glass type fillter.
Car 1969 mgb roadster 1800. Hi all,Just got a new SS flex fuel line with a glass filter. I found that the flex pipe that bolts to the steel feed pipe with the filter fitted is to long.apart from cutting the pipe down. Has any one got a plan that to improve a better layout.

You only have three options really : make a coil of it if long enough, extend the route along the body with clips or re-size it. Re-sizing it might be thr best but will require a new fiiting (unless yours is a screw type fitting already) such as: http://www.speedflowshop.co.uk/

Food for thought: there are anecdotes of glass filters leaking and starting fires. A normal plastic or metal filter has fewer failure points....

I've had 2 glass type fuel filters fail on me. I fitted them mainly for their appearance but will never ever use them again. Both leaked & one clogged up after a very short time. The filter area is quite small compared to other filters. Barrie E

You all make interesting points about glass filters. I was going to get a fillter king maybe with metal case. Hal,thanks for the web. I wondered about the use of them.

MGBs didn't have filters anyway for many years, my 73 has never suffered from not having one.

To echo Paul's post, I understand the earlier MGB's didn't have a filter because the HS-4's don't really clog much due to the design.

That's correct, I remember when I got my first car - a Mini van with single HS, my neighbour who was an automative engineer said "They never get blocked jets, you can drive a coach and horses through them" as it only has the single jet which opens very wide. By contrast HIFs have two much smaller orifices as well as the main jet.

Just replaced a purolator plastic filter. Had to as it developed cracks and started leaking.
