MG MGB Technical - fuel pump failure one day before MG Live!!

hi guys, how typical, on my way to pick up my dad in medway kent to go to MG Live for sunday and the fuel pump packs in. it constantly clicks delivering little fuel pressure. i took it off (in the dark) and pressed my thumb over the outlet and it stopped pumping, it then started pumping and then stopped. it seems very random. Maybe the diaphram is gone? Its and aftermarket electronic type from a reputable seller on ebay, maybe i should have used a filter before the pump?
Worst thing is im going to MG live on sunday, so i have one day to sort it, anyone know where in kent (Ashford preferably) i can get one or even borrow?
Please help!!

" it constantly clicks delivering little fuel "
indicates an air leak between tank and pump. Replace hoses or tighten couplings, depending on what setup you have.
The pump is probably OK. Stopping when you block the outlet tells you it works.

this is strange, i put it all back together again and it ran fine (this is just after putting petrol in). The pump continued to click even though there was pressure, i then drove the car, ran fine. I then put more fuel in as i didnt put in a lot before and its stopped clicking. i wonder if theres a problem with the pickup in the tank letting in air? shouldnt be as it was a brand new tank just 2 years ago. Hmmmmm

AP - It is not uncommon to have a hole in the pickup tube in the tank. I Don't know why this happens, but have heard of it from several people on this BBS. Cheers - Dave

You can fit a very late model sender to the tank that has its own pickup incorperated. if thats the problem. Could be the pump is on it way out.Buy a new one from Dave. or Fit a back up pump ready to go with a flick of a switch. I used to have a pump from an '82 subaru jammed in to the back corner of the engine compartment. Took about half an hour to fit. It will pull though a non functioning SU, and the SU will push though it.
