MG MGB Technical - Gold seal motor specifications

I have a 1968 MGB GT with gold seal motor (BHM1111****) and I'm looking for a document with the specifications of this motor (need it to register the car...).

Hi FG,

Not a complet answer maybe, but gives you more infos:

"Anyway, you're quite right, The gold seal and Silver seal engines were Factory Replacement engines built up by Unipart. It's generally accepted that they were built up with a little more care. People who have driven the Unipart engines all seem to agree that they were spot on, the 998 I drove last year was absolutely perfect, and untouched since installation! It also seems the engine, more often than not, had their bores linered,... Liners are reputable for being much more hard wearing than the original bores so this is another plus point!"

They were complete replacement engines factory rebuild I think.

Another detail:

"Gold seal engines were gold including the VC. I know because I have one which is now in pieces before possible rebuild. However the engine #s were changed."

Gold Seal engines were indeed assembled with 'a little more care' as they were exchange engines, completely stripped down, every component checked against original specs, and any out of spec component replaced. Compare that with assembling a new engine from components out of a box with no checking. I don't know if the new components used in a Gold Seal rebuild were checked as carefully, or simply fitted as-is. They were available for outright purchase, or in exchange for an original faulty engine.

An 18V846 (no overdrive) was used from Sep 74 to Jun 76 and an 847 (overdrive) from the same date to the end of production. My roadster has a Gold Seal engine of the correct spec for the year, I don't know whether it failed early on and so got the same spec, the owner or supplier were careful to exchange for the same type, or it was just luck. That era of engine in a 69 could well have come via another, scrapped, car.
