MG MGB Technical - Hood bumpers

Can anyone direct me to a photo that clearly shows the rubber hood bumper installation locations for my 1973 mgb roadster? That would be Moss part number 282-600.

Thanks,

I've never see a photo showing two each side, but have heard tell of them, and the Parts catalogue quotes the quantity 'As Required'. I suspect the two nearest the screen are only needed to force the bonnet into the correct position when required, given the variability in pressed parts even when new.

Clausager has at least six photos in the engine section showing these with various degrees of clarity. On a 73 (and all models with the mechanical cooling fan) they should be mid-way between the wing bolt that also secures the radiator stay and the wing bolt behind that. Pretty-well directly above the radiator mounting panel on 77 and later cars with the forward mounting radiator.

They 2 per side was discontinued I think to aid rain drainage as in heavy weather you can get overflow into the engine bay, onto the pedal box and so into the car and the drivers feet, believe me this does hapen!

the two each side was discontiued on early push button models when they were used with a sponge at the back of the gutter near screen which held water and rusted the bulk head and lip so it and the two were replaced by the long rubber seal on the lip and just two at the front

Okay, per the comments and Paul's location explanation, the next question is just how you mount them. Do I drill holes for the two mounting bolts on each one? It seems I'd have to do that.

Also, how do they fit within the drainage slot....against the outer wall closest to the fender, close in to the engine or centered? It does appear they should mount up against eihter one side of the drainage well or the other. If I had to guess I'd say close to the engine to maintain drainage against the fender side where water is coming in. Also, it's less visible there through the hood/fender seam.

They mount against the inside flange as you guessed.
Stan Best

Against the inner flange as stated, and drill down through the channel for nuts, bolts and spring-washers.
