MG MGB Technical - Hot cam shafts

Hi,

Im rebuilding my 1800 engine and am up rating it as I go. I have ported and matched the cylinder head and am going to use a tubular exhaust manifold, K&N filters, richer needles, magnatronic ignition, sports coli and amp and was going to change my cam.

What would be the best cam to use for fast road use without loosing too much tractability?

Thanks
Mark Ireland

Mark-
It all depends on what you consider to be "too much" loss of tractability. If you want a smooth idle and good low-rpm torque, I highly recommend the Piper 270. If you're willing to live with a lumpy idle, occasional hard starting under bad conditions (Cold weather), and a loss of low-rpm power, then the Piper 285 will give you more high-rpm power than the Piper 270.
