MG MGB Technical - hydraulics fail

I had to leave my 69 BGT for 5 years without usage or attention. Now I got back to it and found that there is no reaction to brake or clutch pedal. It all feels soft without resistance. Hydraulice fluid is enough. What to do?

Check that nopne of the lines have split or corroded. Replacing the flexible lines anyway wouldn't be a bad idea. Before you do anything you should bleed the brakes and clutch though and then youll know if there's a major fault there or not.

Most likely you are going to have to replace or rebuild the brake master cylinder and the clutch master cylinder.
Inspect the rear brakes to make sure the wheel cylinders aren't leaking.
Check the clutch slave cylinder for leaks.
Hydraulics are more likely to fail if left idle for a long period of time. The seals may become stuck in the bores and when you go to move the pistons, the seals may rip a little causing internal leaks.
Or through non use the seals become slightly deformed and therefore no longer seal and you experience internal leaks in the master cylinders.

The following link is to a list of things to do to a car after it has been sitting a long while. You may not need to do everything on the list.

Ansgar,

beeing not operated througout 5 years, all the rubber components of the hydraulic systems should be renewed, as far as there is no rust damage insude the cylinders and calipers.
The workshop manuals quotes 36 month for renewing hydraulic hoses!
If you can take things apart by yourself, don't forget to also flush the lines with brake cleaner and compressed air too.
May be it is a good idea to post details on http://www.mgdc.de in the drivers talk technical tips.

I am sure there are some frindly MG drivers in your area that can give you an assistance.
