MG MGB Technical - idle

79 mgb, z-s 175 carb, air pump etc. removed, 45g mixture needle, a.c. fuel pump. passed d.c. emissions inspection with ease.

can't bring down the revs at idle below 1000-1100.
haynes manual or moss motor catalogue hints
of no help.

Sounds kind of basic, but..Is the air filter clean? The Z-S is very sensitive to the air filter, as the intake is already pretty strangled. The timing will affect the idle RPM as well.

air cleaner off when testing, timing 10 btdc @ 1500
air cleaner is one of those wire basket types with
porous insert.
