MG MGB Technical - Mgb Gear box straight cut?
I find that when i drive my mg hard and have it in top gear with the overdrive its practically red lining. I have heard that using a sierra box involves little modification and is simple to do and you have fifth. However the draw back is you dont have OD which is amazing-what are the options out there? the engine is uprated and i do need to have a better box as most of the top end power cant be used because the gearing is too low. But i still want the acceleration. i realise that with one you for fit the other. What are the straight cut gears options out there? Help!!! seb |

SEB Check the archives for "5 speed". There is lots of information there, including alternate rear end ratios. The 5 speed transmissions generally give roughly the same or slightly lower final drive ratios than the OD. FWIW Larry 72 BGT w OD |

If your overdrive isn't slipping you will have the same problem with a Sierra box. At 5,000 rpm in OD you should be going about 115 mph? Clifton |

seb, were in the UK are yxu driving in 4th OD with the needle in the red? That would be somewhere between 120 and 125 mph |
