MG MGB Technical - MGB-GT carpet question

I am going to get a new carpet set for my 1966 MGB-GT. It has been converted to an overdrive transmission, so I understand that the 1965-67 kits with molded transmission cover shouldn’t be used. My question is whether I should use the 1968-74 kits that have molded transmission covers. These should fit the placement of the shift lever, but what about the rest of the 1966 interior?

Unless you have had major surgery to the transmission tunnel, can't see what the difference would be.

The only change to the transmission tunnel is the rearward movement of the shift lever by about 3 inches. What made me wonder is that all of the carpet places sell 2 carpet kits for the GT: 65-67 and 68-72. Is the only difference between them the position of the shift lever?

M.E. --- Also the width of the tunnel is wider on the later (68-80) cars to accomodate the 4 syncro tranny. The 65-67 has a narrow tunnel for the 3 syncro. I think that means the floor width would be different. So a carpet for the 68 and later cars would be too wide to fit the floor size

M.E. for the Mk 1, to add the syncro trans, other than moving the shifter back, some slight denting of the tunnel is all that is required. You may need to add just a small amount of carpet to the front of the tunnel where the radio speaker is, but the early kit should work.

The later kit may work also, but as pointed out, you may have a little more material as they are a little wider.
