MG MGB Technical - MGB LH overdrive bearing removal - yikes!

Hi,

OK, so I have an MGB LH overdrive gearbox completely apart...almost. I have never actually taken the center mainshaft bearing apart before. This is the large bearing that fits into the rear of the gearbox maincase. It's not like any bearing I've ever seen before. Usually, almost always, the individual ball bearings are caged, fixed, into the bearing races. This bearing has two rows of ball bearings, held apart by brass cages, which are loose in the outer races. I pressed off the cup that the bearing fits into, and the frontmost row of balls fell out. So right now, I have:
1. the inner race still pressed onto the mainshaft.
2. the cup and outer race still together, but off the shaft, with the outermost inner race still in the bearing with it's 13 balls, but no cage.

What I need to know is, how can I get the bearing outer race out of the cup it is fixed into? There seems to be no edge that I can use to press on to move the race out of the cup. And, if I try to pull it all out using the inner race, well, that's just a no-no.

So, of course, this is the absolute LAST piece I need to get apart before I can start rebuilding the assembly. Nice. >:(

When into mopeds I used to remove steel bearing outers recessed in aluminium engine casings by running a bead of MIG weld around the circumference, this shrunk them enough for them to fall out. If you intend to reuse the bearing or if it's steel in steel (with the risk of welding the bearing in place) this doesn't help, of course...

Drop Ken Quade a note on this. Ken rebuilds all the OD units for our club. He is very good at it and will know exactly what you need.
