MG MGB Technical - MGB seat cushion diaphragm
Purchased a set of diaphragms for the seat cushions on a 64B. (VicBrit p/n# 10-878, oem p/n# AH7878). The new ones measure 17"x13.5". Old ones measure 20"x15". Upholstorer says new ones cannot strech that far. They are the original seats. What is the answer? or the problem? Thanks!

Just checked to see if the midget had a smaller one in case the problem was an incorrect part number, but both B and midget share the AHH7878.

I replaced the diaphragms on the seats in my 69 roadster. It was a bugger of a job but I did get them on.

After checking around, it seems those are the correct diaphragms for the seats. Upholostorer did get them finally streched that far by heating them. Thanks for your help! :)

Yes, it takes some force, and the old ones do stretch a lot! FWIW if you upend the base, feed a length of strong cord through each hook in turn and a handle, brace the feet against the fram and pull, the hooks will lift right out of the frame. Replacement is the reverse of removal, except a bit of careful alignment is required to get the tip of the hook over the hole then angle the cord downwards to insert it. Only takes moments.

Dan I followed Paul's advice some years ago and it worked a charm. You might find that you are sitting higher with the new diaphragms in place since the 'sag' has been removed. I had to reduce the height of the new foam cushions installed at the same time - otherwise I was looking through the windshield top frame! Regards, Barry
