MG MGB Technical - mgbgt heater, wipers and Indicators

I've just bought an mgbgt that has been standing for 2 years. It runs and drives brilliantly and is really solid. I can't seem to get the wipers, indicators or fan to work and wondered if anyone could give me any advice on which wires to clean - relays and where they are or possible fuse locations.

You don’t say what year your car is. This is important for us to give you some help, but in the mean time if you want to check the fuses the fuse box is located on the offside (U.K. drivers side) inner wing. Near to the bonnet support. The only relay is for the starter motor and then on later models.
Cecil Kimber

As Cecil says the year is always pretty crucial. Wipers and fan for example ran off their own in-line fuse from the accessories position of the ignition switch from the 73 year to the end of chrome bumper production, but from the main green circuit fuse in the fusebox either side of that.

The indicators always worked off the green circuit, but through the hazard switch when that was provided and is a frequent cause of indicator problems. Other circuits always off the green fuse were the tach (68 on), fuel gauge, brake lights and reversing lights so if these work it isn't the fuse but something else. There was an ignition relay from 77 on but this powers lots of things so again unless all the ignition circuits are dead it isn't going to be the relay. Do they glow and not flash? Or not glow at all? If the former it could be the flasher unit itself, but the indicators are very sensitive to bad connections anywhere in the circuit which causes glowing but non-flashing. If they aren't coming on at all then as well as the hazard connection there are several 4-way bullet connectors behind the dash that could have a wire pulled out, and again the flasher unit could be faulty. Check with a voltmeter for 12v on the green and green/brown wires of the flasher unit which is usually held in a spring-clip behind the dash on the right-hand side.

I've got a 72' that had the same problem. It was traced to corrosion between the fuse box spade terminals and the body of the fuse box. Either buy a new one OR take it off, clean up the brass underneath and run some solder over the joints.
