MG MGB Technical - MGF AP brake calipers onto MGB

Righto, been looking at a set of MGF/mgtf AP Racing 4-pot calipers (the ones of the trophy challenge car) and was wondering how easy they are to fit to an MGB? I'm currently running a Jaguar XJS 4-pot set up with vented discs and thought the MGF ones might be a bit better. Don't have to worry about discs as I'll need specially made ones anyway as I'm using Rover SD1 5-stud hubs.

Any performance benefit over the Jag ones? Or would it just for the aesthetics? (I'll hopefully be running 16" Compomotive MOs soon so i want my brake calipers to look nice!).

Failing that, anyone got any other suggestions for better brakes on a 300bhp twin turbo V8 MGB?!?

Would have thought that the Jag ones are better, they come from a faster, heavier car then the MGF ones.

I think we meet at a MGs on Track day at Brands last year! Does your car have a shortened SD1 axle? Very impressive car.

yeah you might have seen it with the previous owner. I bought it in Sept last year, but the engine blew up a week later with both gaskets going. Its taken till now to sort the new motor out; the old one was shagged and lucky to be putting out 190bhp. I've now got a 3.9 with balanced internals, custom stage III heads, custom exhausts, ported manifolds and is good for around 300bhp - and thats with the original carbs! I've just bought an Offenhauser manifold complete with direct port nitrous injection, but i need a custom carb and some bits for the nitous first. Also got some cooling probs to get sorted - bigger radiator I think! And then there's water injection . . . ah the list goes on!

I've not driven it with the new engine in yet, but apparently its a monster, wheelspins in fourth! The transmission is via an LT77 'box, AP Racing clutch, custom propshaft and SD1 axel. Thinking of fitting an R380 maybe in the future depending on how this one holds up. I have also been looking into a Jag IRS rear end, and I'm planning on racing it in some club events and 1/4 mile drags etc. for fun. This year is going to be used to develop the car and see what needs sorting. All I want to do it get in and rag it silly!

Oo-o-o-h! XJS Jag 4-pot calipers on an MGB, huh?

I would've never had guessed.

It just so happens that the local breaker yard
often have various Jags sunning themselves
with retired Chevys and Fords.

I question are these: What is done as far as putting on vented disks? Does this entail much
custom machining or can one bolt on a set of
disks from a some other production car.
Can the 4 lug bolt pattern be retained?

Just wondering.

Well my set up uses custom made hubs that have MG rear mountings and Rover SD1 5-stud mounts for the wheels - they were quite expensive at about £300 ($550+). The discs area a straight sawp over but I'm not too sure if the calipers have adapters or not. CUrrently the brake set up is adequate but I want it to be a bit better. I may just try new pads first.

The rear set up is a bit wierd to: I'm using Ford Sierra Cosworth calipers on Mercedes solid front discs, on a Rover SD1 rear axel (hence also 5 stud). The car is more like a kit car than a modded MG!

any pictures at all, im sure we all would love to see them

Hmmm, well the car is about 250 miles away at the moment so getting pictures may be a bit of a pain! Hopefully getting the car back soon though so I'll take a bunch then.

cheers
