MG MGB Technical - More bolt sizes.

Hi all,

I cannot find a referrence in the Moss cat. for the 4 gearbox crossmember bolts. I think they are 9/16 but how long are they? also UNC or UNF.

Also need to know the sizes of the 2 bolts that hold the yoke to the crossmember. Think they are 1/2 inch but again do not know the length or the thread pattern.

71 MGB GT.

Thanks. Neil.

9/16 UNF about 1 1/2 " long. The length is not critical. Once it has passed through the anchor nut,it's inside the chassis rail & there are no obstructions until the floor, several inches away. Barrie E

9/16 UNF? Really?

Down load the moss Europe cat as on the last 4 pages it gives you the part number and size of lots of nuts and bolts then all you have to do is look on the right page for the part number.
Uk and USA part numbers are different so not sure if it has the same listing in the back of the USA cat as well

Sorry, ignore my first post .It definitely is not 9/16" UNF. Too much Christmas spirit. It's more likely to be 3/8"UNF, but I will check later to day. Barrie e

The Xmember bolts are 3/8' unf,1-1/4" to 1- 1/2" long will do. It's the spanner/wrench size that is 9/16"!

Xmas day turned out to be quite eventful. Apart from giving out false info, I managed to set the electric oven on fire with the aid of some pork crackling. A smoke filled kitchen soon alerted us to this event. Fortunately the turkey had been removed earlier. Whilst carrying the turkey on a carving platter, which has a very shallow lip,to a more spacious part of the kitchen I managed to spill the juices of the turkey onto the floor turning it into a skating rink. My wife hadn't planned on washing the kitchen floor so early in the day. I think that was why she said the roast potatoes tasted smoky. They tasted fine to me & everything went off well until someone asked where the Brussels sprouts were.I was able to answer them immediately " they're still in the freezer" I don't think my culinary skills will be called upon next year.
Seasons greetings to all, Barrie E
