MG MGB Technical - New SU Fuel Pump

I have just fitted a new SU electronic fuel pump to my car and it has surprise surprise fixed the problems.....

The one thing I would like to know is what is the small attachment tube for on the front?

It was not connected to anything on the original pump, therefore not sure if I can just block off? It is much quieter when you put your finger over the whole.

Anyone have any experience?

Thanks
Ed

Ed - That is a vent for the back side of the diahragm. There are tw vent tubes on the pump, on on the end cover that has a check valve that only allows the air to be expelled and one at the base of the coil housing, whih will both expell air and draw air in. It should be routed via some 1/8" tubbing into the trunk and terminated with a "T" fitting tokeep it from pulling back out. I am sending you an article I wrote regarding the venting of the SU fuel pumps. Cheers - Dave
