MG MGB Technical - NOS wheel cylinder prep

Just purchased a set of very old Lockheed wheel cylinders for a B-GT. The wax has preserved the metal well and I was wondering what needs to be done inside the bores such as cleaning the wax out and or lubricating the seal with silicone grease before using??? Does leaving the wax inside create any contaminant issues?

I don't know for sure, but if your NOS brake cylinders were packed in a similar manner to current practice, what was once a jelly like rubber lubricant has oxidized into a waxy gunk.

There is probably nothing harmful in the material itself, even if it were cosmoline.

But at this point in time it would probably serve you well to thoroughly clean the cylinders with denatured alcohol inside and out, and then relubricate the innards and seals with fresh brake fluid ~ your choice of silicone or regular, depending on what you will use in the system when you fill it.
