MG MGB Technical - Outer door/waist seal 72BGT

Has anyone had expeience replacing these outer rubber seals between the door and glass? Mine are cracked and dried so badly that they are scartching the door glass when rolling the window up and down. I bought new seals. Moss has a special magnetic tool that is supposed to make the job easier. Does anyone have any tips on how to do it without this tool.

I did replace these seal on my '79 roadster several years ago, and it was not really that hard to do.

However the GT has this chrome trim that sticks up so the window can't go down far enough to get to the clips.

Please advise.
Thanks,

It isn't too difficult to replace these strips. When I did mine I removed the interior panel from the door, wound the glass right down, then knocked the old clips off using a ruler and small hammer. They fall into the door and can be fished out (hence removing the panel). The old strip just lifts away. At that point wind the glass right up and clean the strip that you'll never be able to reach once the new strip is in place. Then wind the glass down again and offer up the strip. Fixing the NEW clips is easy if you get a piece of easily bendable metal (I use aluminium radio mounting strip) and bend a small lip on the end - just rest the clip on the lip, put it in place and give a steady pull upwards. It sounds fiddly, but isn't.
